Yes, every season is ice cream season (heck, some of us believe that every day is ice cream day).
What I'm talking about is an indication that winter probably won't be back for several month, spring is firmly settled, but summer isn't that far off. It's the day the ice cream parlours open up for the season.
Granted, there are a few who are open all year long (chain-stores, mostly), but around here, there a couple of independents that fling open their doors for six months. These are the places where grape, tiger tail and other none-too-commonly stocked flavours have a home.
They make giant sundaes dolled up with whipped cream, ooey-gooey sauces, fruit chunks and sprinklies--the kind your parents won't allow in the car because of spillage. If they have to weigh out their wares before handing them to the customer, I can't tell--the portions are always very generous.
So yesterday was the day my favoured independent opened up for the 2007 season. And what did we pick up? Bordeaux cherry and pistachio (for TFE) and pina colada and banana (for me). Yummy yummy yummy!

Yeah! ice cream season is here! gosh, but I'd like it sans the humidity :)
*sigh* ice cream? I could stick cream outside STILL these days and keep ice cream from melting. grrr... it's too cold here. Not even supposed to be.
I'm with TFE on choices although pina colada sounds awfully nice too
Jasmine, darling - I'm so glad to see that you're still blogging away. I guess I had feared that everyone would disappear from the blogosphere because I did. Your blog is still a joy of all joys.
Though I try my hand at many desserts, the one thing that guarantees Eric's satisfaction is ice cream - I have never failed. I have been meaning to make many of Nigella's ice creams over the years but never got around to it, so that will be part of my dessert project over the summer in the US. Both of the ice creams you picked up sound heavenly.
Take care.
I'm in the "everyday is ice cream day" camp...
And I for one could not be happier! I hope you enjoyed your little treats!
Hi Jasmine! I agree - every season is ice-cream season... that's the only way I can explain all of the ice-cream that was churned out during those horrific -25C days we had!
Mmm... pina colada sounds heavenly!
Oh I so can't wait to fire up the ice cream maker... it is almost time! These sound so good!
I really don't make ice cream often enough... it is suppose to start getting warmer this week though! What great timing for this post!
Hello Jasmine, linked on you from Gilly's blog. You have a wonderful blog here, i'll be back for more...the ice cream that is :)))
Really that's the way it should be ... something you long for during the winter months ... the cool of ice cream ... no wait ... December is the only month I can find my favorite peppermint in the store.
That's me, too—I believe everyday is a good day for ice cream.
The Bordeaux cherry sounds divine and pistachio is one of my favorites, although I can be picky about it.
Three cheers for ice cream!I recently whipped up a Clementine and Cardamom Sorbet, which made me think of you, of course.
Hello all
Kat - ugh humidity. We had a day of it last week...I'm not looking forward to those hazy summer days...
Nerissa! Welcome back, my friend.
Shaun - Aw...you are too sweet for words :) As I emailed you, Nigella's ice cream recipes are a joy and I hope you try more of them.
Brilynn, Gilly - An ice cream every day keeps the...um...something away.
Ivonne - They were wonderful. Or at least mine was. Dunno about the TFE's.
Filreni, Kate- Welcome! It's always time for ice cream!
Joe - Can't wait to see what you come up with.
Tanna - one of my pet projects is to come up with a fudgey ribboned mint ice cream...
BP - the pistachio at the parlour has lovely little almondy crunchy bits...quite nice.
Aimée - That sounds divine. I hope you post about it.
